Daughter of: James Archibald Clement & Sarah Frances Stockdale of Benton County.

JAMES ARCHIBALD CLEMENT was born August 01, 1853 in Benton Co, Tenn, and died May 25, 1933 in Dickson, Tenn. He married (1) SARAH FRANCES "SALLIE" STOCKDALE October 30, 1877 in Benton Co, Tenn. She was born January 22, 1853 in Benton Co, Tenn, and died January 27, 1899 in Benton Co, Tenn. He married (2) AGNES ANN WORK SHIPP December 24, 1899 in Dickson, Tenn, daughter of R. WORK and MALISSA BINGHAM. She was born January 17, 1866, and died February 16, 1913.

Mattie C Lashlee was the Aunt of Governor Frank Clement. Her father had remarried and moved to Dickson County and had a son named Robert S. Clement (Mattie's 1/2 brother) and father to Frank Clement. Frank was introduced into politics by Mattie's connection to her brother-in-law Judge OP Lashlee and his son/her nephew Sen. John Wyly Lashlee who were very active in state politics and held elected offices. John Wyly was planning to run for Governor in or around 1946 or 1948, but suddenly passed away in 1944. John's surviving wife and Tennessee's First Elected Women Senator Mildred Jolly Lashlee invited Frank Clement to Camden to meet with Lashlee political ally EH Boss Crump. Crump had allied with the Lashlee's back when the original Memphis to Bristol Highway planning had taken place and had become a long time family friend. During this meeting in Camden around June 1948, Senator Lashlee suggested Boss Crump get behind an ambitious and charasmatic Clement and Crump would become the major funding source in Frank Clements run for governor!
