MRS BARRETT IS TAKEN BY DEATH
SISTER OF DRS. W. E. AND J.T. UPJOHN --EXPIRES AFTER LONG ILLNESS.
Mrs. Alice Upjohn Barrett. widow of the late Rev. Wright Barrett, died Thursday after a long illness. Mrs. Barrett was born in Richland, November 13, 1841, she being the third child of Dr. and Mrs. Uriah Upjohn. She was a student in her earlier days in Gull Prairie seminary, later In Ypsilanti Normal school mid in Northwestern university. In 1862, she married Wright Barrett; and together they studied at Evanston, Ill. living in that city for five years. When her husband entered the Methodist ministry, Mrs. Barrett proved a most capable helpmate, even filling his pulpit in emergencies. Also she was active In Sunday school work both as teacher and superintendent, and their interest in home and foreign missions was deep. Mrs. Barrett leaves two sons, Frederick M. and Franklin U., and a daughter, Dr. Frances Elizabeth Barrett. One son, Wright. Jr. died In Infancy. A. sister. Mrs. Mary Sidnam, unit two brothers Dr. E. Upjohn and Dr. J.T. Upjohn, also survive. Funeral will be held from the residence. 1130 South Westnedge avenue at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Friends are requested not to send flowers.
