BERNALILLO (AP) - A funeral mass is scheduled at 10AM for Tom Montoya, elder brother of
U.S. Sen. Joseph Montoya, Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo. Tom Montoya died Tuesday, at Houston's Methodist Hospital after suffering a stroke last week. He was 62. Burial was to follow the mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery.
Montoya was the oldest of the politically potent Montoya brothers. He had long been active in New Mexico Democratic politics. Tom Montoya was a member of the Bernalillo Municipal School Board.
He had served as Sandoval County commissioner, state senator and state liquor director.
He is survived by his widow Cleo; brothers Ted and Joseph; and two sisters, Virginia Chavez and Lorella Salazar.
