Hans Christian Hanson was born on November 19, 1913 in Urness Township of Douglas County, Minnesota to Peter and Ina (Olson) Hanson. Following graduation from District No. 70 school, Hans remained on the home place and worked as a farm hand in the area.

Hans was united in marriage to Adeline Kvitek on September 22, 1942 at Brandon. Two children were born to them. Following four years of service in the United States Air Force during World War II, the family made their home in Alexandria. From 1946 to 1958 Hans worked as caretaker of Kinkead Cemetery and then was elected Douglas County Treasurer, a position he held until 1970. Hans began his own construction business and semi-retired in 1982. For the next nine years he worked for Green Thumb Rest Area at the Lobster Lake Exit. He had a talent for woodworking and created many lovely cabinets in his shop. In 1991, Hans and Adeline moved to Brandon where Hans continued to enjoy his hobbies, including fishing, visiting with people, and watching sports. Baseball and the World Series were his particular favorites.
