Mrs. Ching or Ching Wong Shee and her husband lived in the Hawaiian Islands from the late 1890's to 1933 after which they traveled to and lived in Kowloon, Hong Kong. "Due to the long illness of her husband, the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in WWII from 1941 to 1945, and the subsequent expiration of her U.S. re-entry permit, Mrs. Ching's return to U.S. soil was unavoidably delayed."

In 1952, an Act of Congress brought her home to live in the U.S. Territory of Hawaii with her large family for the remainder of her life. She had eleven children. Sang, Harry, Fanny, Esther, Ernest, Florence, Arthur, Edward, Clarence, Walter and Elsie. Her daughter Elsie, worked with former Hawaii Territorial Governor Joseph Poindexter who tried to get an immigration visa for Mrs. Ching. After many years of family and legal effort and struggle, a private congressional bill sponsored by Hawaii Territorial Delegate Joseph Farrington was successful and paved the way for Mrs. Ching's return home after 19 years in China via Private Law 527, Chapter 158, of the 82nd U.S. Congress

Mrs, Ching's husband Sen Ching died in Kowloon in 1940 and is buried at the Chinese Permanent Cemetery at Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island. He was from Niu Hu community near the town of Guan Lan near Mission Hills. Mrs. Ching's family name was Wong and she was from the community of Ma Li which is also near Guan Lan in Bao'an District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province in China.
