THOMPSON - Edmund Mahon, 85, of 200 Thompson Road, died Friday afternoon at home, following an extended illness.
He was born in North Grosvenordale on November 10, 1916, a son of the late John S. Mahon and Josephine (Tercjak) Mahon. Mr. Mahon was the beloved husband of Julia (Cunha) Mahon, whom he married on November 14, 1936 in Sacred Heart Church, West Thompson.
A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Mahon was employed for many years as a loom fixer, working for textile companies such as the former Grosvenordale Company, Cluett-Peabody and Belding Hemingway. He also worked for himself erecting TV antennas on homes in the area.
Mr. Mahon was a communicant of Saint Joseph Church in North Grosvenordale and was also a member of the Polish American Club in Webster, MA. He was a man of many talents and crafts and enjoyed time spent splitting wood to heat his home.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, he leaves 1 son, Dr. Paul J. Mahon of Worcester, MA; 1 daughter, Rose Mary Jackson of Mashpee, MA; 1 sister, Cecilia Grudzien of Webster, MA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Anne "Betty" Mahon in 1953 and 2 sons, John E. Mahon, Sr. in 1988 and Thomas M. "Gus" Mahon in 2002, as well as a brother, James Mahon and a sister, Victoria Dalip.
The funeral will assemble on Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Joseph Church, 18 Main Street, North Grosvenordale.
