John E. Mahon, Sr., September 19, 1937 - April 30, 1988. John E. Mahon, Sr., 50 of Klondike Street, North Grosvenordale, died Saturday afternoon at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam after courageously battling Multiple Myeloma for three years. He was united in marriage to Lillianne C. (Mailloux) Mahon on November 14, 1959. He was born September 19, 1937 at Day Kimball Hospital, son of Edmund Mahon and Julia (Cunha) Mahon of Thompson, CT. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1955. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a radio operator in Germany and France from 1955 to 1959. When discharged, he returned to Connecticut and began a career at Anchor Class Containers in Dayville, CT from 1959 until his passing. He owned and operated Yankee Doodle Dandy Gamefowl, specializing in Narragansett gamefowl. He shipped gamefowl and eggs throughout the United States, Philippines, and United Kingdom. He was also an elected member of the Town of Thompson Zoning Board of Appeals.

In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves his sons: Phillip E. Mahon of North Grosvenordale, and John E. Mahon, Jr. and his wife Johanne of Putnam, CT. Two brothers; Dr. Paul J. Mahon of Worcester MA and Thomas M. "Gus" Mahon of Thompson, CT; a sister Rosemary Adamec of Putnam, CT. His father-in-law Philip J. Mailloux of Grosvenordale; his sister-in-law Jeannette Kerouack and her husband Leonard of Wauregan, CT. He was predeceased by a sister Elizabeth Anne "Betty" Mahon in 1953, and his mother-in-law Marie-Berthe Mailloux in 1977.

The funeral will assemble on Tuesday May 3, 1988 at 10:15 a.m. at the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Joseph Church, 18 Main Street, North Grosvenordale. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
