OBITUARY
Edward Patterson

Edward Patterson, son of John and Louisa Patterson, was born on a farm south of Stratford, March 30, 1870, and passed away in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Housberg, south of Stanhope, Apr. 12, 1957, at the age of 87 years and 13 days. He was educated in the local country schools and in the Boone schools.

On Nov. 2, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Yarn and to this union nine children were born - 5 girls and 4 boys. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, who passed away Mar. 13, 1947; one son, Sherman, in 1939, and two sons and two daughters, who died in infancy.

Mr. Patterson had been in failing health for the past year and bedfast the last two weeks. The end came peacefully at 5 a.m. Friday.

He was a kind, loving father, whose interests were mainly his home and family. He was very fond of growing things - trees, plants, and flowers, and for many years spent most of his summers planting and caring for his flowers, trees and shrubs. He even had a bit of success with grafting.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his three daughters and a son: Mrs. Roy (May) Housberg, Mrs. Arthur (Alice) Malmberg, both of Stanhope, Mrs. Eugene (Maurine) Donnell of Lewiston, Maine; and Earl, who lives in their home south of Stratford.

Mr. Patterson was a charter member of the South Marion Church.

Precious father, he has left us,
Left us, yes, forever more,
But we hope to meet our loved one
On that bright and happy shore.
Lonely the house, and sad the hours,
Since our dear one has gone.
But Oh! A brighter home than ours
In Heaven is now his own.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the South Marion Church, preceded by a prayer service in the Hanson Funeral Home at 2:05 o'clock. The Rev. Maurice Gunn officiated at the services. Songs for the services were: "In the Garden," and "The Old Rugged Cross," sang by Mrs. Charles Magnuson, Mrs. Robert Magnuson, Mrs. Severt Crim and Mrs. Halbert Crim, accompanied by Mrs. Vincel Crim at the organ.

Interment was made in the South Marion Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Carl Johnson, Arnold Larson, Fabian Peterson, Charles Smith, Severt Crim and Claude Holley.

The Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
