DEATH MRS. DODDS.
Mrs. Mary E. Dodds, widow of the late Clellan F. Dodds, the second mayor of Bloomington, passed peacefully away this morning at 6:45 o'clock at the Dodds homestead on west 2nd street.

Mrs. Dodds, whose maiden name was Miss Mary E. Orchard, was a pioneer of Bloomington being born and raised in this city. July 31st, 1851, she was united in marriage to Clelland F. Dodds. To this union the following living children were born: S. C. Dodds, cashier of the Monroe County bank, Wm. J., Henry and Ella Dodds, Mrs. Frank Lampkins, and Mrs. D. C. Miller, all of this city; Mrs. Newell Sanders, of Chattanooga, and Mrs. Levi G. Batman, of
Youngstown, O. She is also survived by two brothers James Orchard, of Los Angeles, and Samuel Orchard, of this city.

Mrs. Dodds was a lady loved and respected by all who knew her. She was ever devoted to her family, a good kind mother, and a neighbor who might always be called upon during sickness or death. She was a woman of strong Christian temperament and was a faithful member of the 1st Presbyterian church.

Mrs. Sanders and daughter Pansy have already arrived. The remaining children will arrive tomorrow.

Funeral at 4:30 o'clock at the residence on west 2nd street in charge of Rev. White. The pall bearers will be the five sons. The burial at Rose Hill.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. Dodds who died Tuesday morning, was held at the residence on west 2nd street, this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Rev. White had charge of the service and his text was "Her Children Shall Rise up and Call her Blessed." The music was by the Presbyterian choir and the selections were "Asleep in Jesus," "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Lead Kindly Light."

The out-of-town relatives who were here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Newell Sanders and daughter Pansy, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Andrew Dodds of Chattanooga; Mrs. L. G. Batman and son Robert, of Youngstown, O.

Funeral of Mrs. M. E. Dodds

The last sad rites in the death of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dodds occurred at 4:30 this afternoon when the funeral service was held at the late residence on west Second street in charge of the Rev. T. R. White, of the First Presbyterian church. Rev. White selected his text from the oracle of King Lemuel found in the Proverbs which was, "Her Children Shall Rise Up and Call Her Blessed." The music was in charge of the Presbyterian church choir and the selections were, "Asleep in Jesus," "Lead Kindly Light" and "Sometime We'll Understand." The body was laid to rest in the family lot at Rose Hill cemetery.

Those from a distance here to attend the funeral were Hon. Newell Sanders, wife and daughter, Pansy, Andrew J. Dodds, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Mrs. Levi Batman, and son, Robert, Youngstown, Ohio.

The following floral offerings were received:

Death of Mrs. Dodds.

Mrs. Mary E. Dodds died at the old family homestead, on west Second street, last Tuesday morning, in the 80th year of her age. She was the widow of Clelland F. Dodds who was Mayor of this city about 30 years ago. Mrs. Dodds was one of the pioneers of the county, and was born in Bloomington when the town was in its infancy. The story of her life is one of sweet simplicity and nobility of character. Next to her heart was her devotion to her family, to her friends and her church. The life that has passed away will always be a sweet remembrance in the lives of the near and dear one left behind. The following are the living children: S. C. Dodds, cashier of the Monroe County State Bank, Morton C. Dodds, William J. Dodds, Henry Dodds, Ella Dodds, Mrs. Frank Lampkins, and Mrs. D. C. Miller of this city; Mrs. Newell Sanders, and Anthony J. Dodds, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Levi G. Batman, Youngstown, Ohio. She also leaves two brothers, James Orchard of Los Angeles, Calif., and Samuel Orchard, this city.
