Lucile Mainer, ninth child of Nick and Ella Nelms Mainer, was born in Lovelady, 23 January 1891. She was like her father, quiet and soft spoken, and grew into a woman of dignity and beauty. She graduated from Lovelady High School in 1909 as valedictorian of her class. While in High school, she knew
Robert James McMurrey of Camilla, TX, who had come to Lovelady for his High school work, as Lovelady was reputed to have a superior school. He was in her class, and as class orator on the graduation program, he spoke on "A Tribute to Our Forefathers", and made an impression on Lucile, so much that, after attending Baylor University, she cast her lot with him. They were married in the Lovelady Baptist Church, and her nieces, Ella Frances and Margaret, were flower girls in her wedding.
They lived for some time in Austin, returning to Lovelady where Robert was a merchant for a short time. He was a restless man, always seeking something better. He had a liking for the oil prospecting business, drilled wells in El Dorado, Arkansas; and was one of the first "wild catters" to enter the East TX oil field, where he hit "pay dirt", He became a large operator and organized, with his brother, Marvin McMurrey, the East TX Oil Refinery in Tyler. He and Lucile built a palatial home in Tyler. During the height of his prosperity, he was stricken by a fatal intestinal illness and died on 13 September 1935. He was buried in his wife's chosen burial ground in Lovelady Evergreen Cemetery, where their first child was buried. Lucile McMurrey died in Tyler 4 April 1982. Their children:
