Roy Burleson Mainer, named for Dr. Rufus C. Burleson, president of Baylor University where most of the Mainer family had attended college, was the tenth and last child of Nick and Ella Nelms Mainer. He attended school in Lovelady and one year at Baylor University.
He entered the mercantile business of the firm of E. Mainer and Sons, until World War I. He enlisted and served as a sharpshooter in the 36th TX Division in France. Roy married in 1918 to Miss Berta Phillips of Crockett, who was a teacher in Lovelady.
To this union, one daughter, Marie Elaine, was born. Marie was graduated from Sam Houston Teachers' College, where she received many outstanding honors. The most significant being selected by the student body as the queen of the college for year 1940.
After teaching two years, Marie married Jack M. Vinson, who was killed in World War II. One daughter, Jackie Marie was born to this union. The Miners then moved to Houston. Marie taught in the Houston Public Schools for twenty-three years. She was forced to retire in 1971 because of a severe accident.
Jackie Vinson married Bert Caldwell of Houston. They have a beautiful little daughter, Lorie Marie, born July 4, 1969, "out little fire cracker."
