Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Methodist Church in Norfolk for Garton Wilson McGee, 91, who died Monday afternoon at a Tilden rest home. Rev. Kenneth Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
The body will lie in state Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Howser Mortuary.
Mr. McGee was born March 17, 1875, at Bloomfield, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Joel W. McGee. He married Frances Alice McCoy at Lincoln Dec. 16, 1913. They lived in Lincoln for 11 years where he was employed by Harding Furniture So.
MOVE TO NORFOLK
In 1918, they moved to Norfolk, where Mr. McGee worked for McFadden Ford Co for two years and Spangenberg's for 35 years before retiring. He was a member of the Norfolk Sanitary District board for more than 20 years.
Mr. and Mrs. McGee celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1963.
He is survived by his widow; three sons, Sen. Gale William (1915-1992) of Washington, D.C., Max of David City, and Dr. Dean A (1921) of Lexington; a sister, Mrs. Phoena Caldwell of Humeston, Iowa; three brothers, Fred, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Giles, Woodburn, Iowa, and Clifford, San Diego, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters in addition to his parents.
