Mrs. B. A. Holcombe, widow of the late Dr. James M. Holcombe, prominent Jefferson County resident, died this morning at 12:30 o'clock in her home, 820 West Fifth Avenue.
Mrs. Holcombe moved to Pine Bluff in 1868 from her home in Union County. She married Dr. James M. Holcombe, who before his death was a commanding figure in Jefferson County. There were four children born of the union: Miss Annie Holcombe, who later became Mrs. John E. Martineau, wife of the governor of Arkansas. Mrs Martineau died some years ago, Mrs. James B. Reynolds of Washington, D. C., Brad J. B. Holcombe of Pine Bluff, and Miss Nettie Holcombe, deceased.
She was graduated from Nazareth College, famous educational center for women in Kentucky. Mrs. Holcombe was endowed with a fine mind and possessed an indomitable spirit that would appear to a stranger as being capable of conquering death itself.

Died as She Wished

A formal eulogy seems insufficient. Death came as she would have wished, while yet her faculties were undimmed, but after her aspirations and ambitions were gratified and soothed by ministrations of her children, who have partially repaid their debt to a loving and fond mother, by striving to live as she would have them live.
Mrs. Holcombe's amusements in declining years were limited pleasantries of conversation with intimate associates.
The most striking characteristic was an arresting personality and a mind that functioned with extraordinary rapidity, even in her declining years, and as her friends said, she had a "great fund of valuable information and a small amount of useless knowledge."

Children are Successful
Mrs. Holcombe lived to see her children grown and successful, Mrs. James P. Reynolds is the wife of a prominent Washington man, who has been identified with public affairs in the capital city for a number of years and was campaign manager for President Coolidge when seeking the vice-presidency. Mrs. Reynolds was called home to her mother several weeks ago when Mrs. Holcombe was slightly injured from a fall, from which she never recovered.
Mrs. Holcombe was an active and loyal member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She is also survived by three grandchildren, C. T. Herring of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Grant Simon of Philadelphia and Orto Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the St. Joseph Catholic Church with requiem high mass. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor Walter J. Tynin and Father Charles McCoy will conduct the services. Burial will be in Bellwood Cemetery. Ralph Robinson and Son will have charge of funeral arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Sam Katzenstein, Sterling Barrow, Frank Tomlinson, Guy Taggart, Abe Bloom, Frank Roane, Frank Franey, Tom Gadberry, E. T. Rainey, Little Rock; Richard Barnett, Jack Maloney, Little Rock; Bohman Hammond of Little Rock; Earnest Martineau of Little Rock and J. B. Hilzheim of Little Rock.
