FORMER RESIDENT
Has Been Ill for Some Time-Funeral
This Afternoon at 2:30 at Bellwood
Mrs. Annie N. Martineau, 39 years old, wife of Judge John M. Martineau, of Little Rock, chancellor of the Little Rock Chancery District, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Bama M. Holcombe, 820 West Fifth Avenue, yesterday morning at 10:30 o'clock, after an illness which extended through several months. Her death was not wholly unexpected, for her condition had been critical for two or three weeks and the attending physicians had not given the family any encouragement as to her recovery. All of her relatives including a sister from Washington, D. C., were at the bedside when the end came.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Holcombe home. The Rev. Father Norton of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, will conduct the service. Among the pallbearers will be several prominent Little Rock friends of Judge Martineau. Interment will be in Bellwood. Funeral arrangements are in the hands of H. I. Holderness and Company.
Mrs. Martineau is survived by her devoted mother, one sister, Mrs. J. B. Reynolds of Washington, D. C., a brother, J. Brad Holcombe, of Little Rock, her husband, and one son, Orto Mitchell.
Mrs. Martineau was a daughter of the late Dr. J. M. Holcombe, who was at one time one of the most prominent physicians of the state. She was a young woman of many charming traits and was considered a woman of unusual brilliance. Before her marriage she was one of the most popular of Pine Bluff society girls, and although she lived in Little Rock but a few years, she had numbers of friends and admirers in social circles there, and the news of her death will be learned with regret in this and other states where she was known and beloved.
Everything was done by medical experts to relieve her suffering during her illness, but she gradually grew worse and the end came on yesterday morning, after the physicians had exerted every scientific effort known to the medical fraternity to prolong her life. Several months ago when her condition did not improve, Judge Martineau accompanied his wife to Texas, but she showed no improvement and physicians finally advised him to return to Arkansas with her.
The funeral will be held this afternoon and the following will be the pallbearers:
Honorary-Judge R. J. Lea, Little Rock; Judge Guy Fulk, Little Rock; Judge G. W. Hendricks, Little Rock; Dr. Z. Orto, D. H. C. Jordan, W. O. Taghgart, Judge A. B. Grace and Judge J. M. Elliott. Active-J. S. Maloney, F. A. Garrett, Z. O. Pindall, Frank E. Dodge, I. P. Shelby, E. L. McHaney, Christ Ledwidge and W. M. Lewis, all of Little Rock.
