Son of Senator Jacob H. & Mary Ann (Bailey) Gallinger. He was a graduate of Concord (NH) High School, and of Dartmouth Medical College in the class of 1896. His first position was at French Hospital in NYC, followed by Hudson Street Hospital in New York. He then took a full course in obstetrics in Broome Street Hospital, followed by Boston City Hospital where he served six months in the contagious disease wards.
He returned to Concord and practiced medicine there from an office at 67 North State Street. In 1898 then-Governor Ramsdell appointed him as physician to the New Hampshire State Prison. He was connected with the Margaret Pillsbury Hospital in Concord.
He married 6 Feb 1908 in Concord NH to Jeanette Emma King, daughter of Andrew Davis & Emma L. (Draper) King.
