Sophie Olson was born in Nordre Lands, Prestegjeld, Norway, October 14, 1847, her parents being Halvor and Sisselie Tomte. She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. H. Halsing. She came to America in 1869, arriving at Decorah, Iowa, May 25, where she remained a year. She then left for Minneapolis, where she was married to John A. Olson in 1871. To this union six children were born; three of them died in infancy; a daughter, Mrs. Ina Hanson, of Urness, died February 13, 1914. The two surviving children are Henry Olson and Mrs. Magda Holgrimson, both residing near Brandon. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, one brother at Erskine, and one sister at McIntosh, Minn.

The Olson family moved from Minneapolis to the farm south of Brandon, now occupied by Henry Olson in 1874, where they have since resided. Mr. Olson died August 14, 1909. The past seven years Mrs. Olson has been living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Halgrimson.
She had been in good health until the last few years, when she began to fall. On April 26th, 1926, she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered, she was confined to bed 11 months, was able to sit up a little each day part of the time. She bore her illness with patience and cheerfulness, and longed to depart from this world, to be with her Saviour.

Mrs. Olson passed away March 26, 1927 at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 12 days. The funeral services were held from the Halgrimson home and from Grace Lutheran church, of which she was a member, Thursday afternoon, March 31. Rev. Edw. Livingston spoke in English and Rev. J. A. Pederson spoke in Norwegian. There was a song sung by a quartet, Mrs. Edw. Livingston, Mrs. W. Schulke, H. Peterson and John Hammer. A duet by Misses Gladys and Maron Larson, also a duet by Mrs. Olof Elness and Miss Christine Elness. Rev. Peterson sang a solo at the home. There were many beautiful flowers.
The pall bearers were six of her grandsons, Jennings, Harvey, Elroy and Glen Olson, Axel and Phillip Hanson. The body was laid to rest at the West Moe Cemetery beside that of her husband. A short service was also held at West Moe church. Blessed be her memory.
