Verna Louise Heuer, age 97, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Verna was born April 18, 1925, in rural Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Darleen (Gourley) Requist. She graduated from Red Oak High School and was united in marriage to Peter Franklin Heuer on January 21, 1946, in Troy, Kansas. They made their home in Montgomery County, Iowa. Verna has been a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. She worked for Fox Finley Motors and later Cole Jewelry for many years. Verna was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking. She also enjoyed spending winters in Florida sitting on the beach. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Peter Franklin Heuer; brother: Marvin Requist; son: Larry Heuer; and brother-in-law: Jim Holmberg. Survivors include her children: Linda Boehle and husband Dan of Omaha, NE and Bruce Heuer of Red Oak, IA; daughter-in-law: Sherry Heuer of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Michelle Focht and husband Mark of Villisca, IA; Amy Bomer and husband Darren of Silver City, IA; Stacy Roth and husband Justin of Kansas City, MO; Megan Eisenhauer and husband Nathan of Kansas City, MO; and Jessica Boehle of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren: Amanda Mitchell and husband Rick and family of Stanton, IA; Drew Askey and significant other Alexis Kittelson and family of Red Oak, IA; Holden Roth of Kansas City, MO; Eliza Roth of Kansas City, MO; Andrew Focht and wife Karla and family of Villisca, IA; Aaron Focht and wife Rachelle and family of Villisca, IA; Ryan Focht of Villisca, IA; Amanda Focht and significant other Dan Fleming and family of Villisca, IA; Cory Bomer of Emerson, IA; and Trevor Bomer of Silver City, IA; great great grandson: Baker Mitchell of Stanton, IA; sister: Dorothy Holmberg of Hopkins, MN and her children: Dane and Cheri Holmberg and Doree and Steve Wendling of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law: Barbara Requist of Stanton, IA and her daughter: Marcy Requist and Ron Wikso and family of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. The family would also like to thank Verna's caregivers, Jolene Elwood and Patti Westover for the wonderful care of their Mom and Me Me.

A celebration of life, viewing and visitation will be held from 1-3 PM Friday, January 6, 2023, at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. There will be a private family interment service at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Save Our Depot Committee or Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor.
