Sylvester Lewis Myers, 72, of Cloverdale died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Carilion Cancer Center of Western Virginia. He was born August 13, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of the late Lewis Meyers and Eva Forsberg Meyers. He was a resident of Blacksburg and Cary, N.C., before returning to the Roanoke area. He was retired with over 20 years service in the U.S. Navy, from Carolina Power and Light, and worked for a number of years as the Radiation Safety Officer for the Health Physics Department at Virginia Tech. He is survived by his wife, Jean Dodson Meyers; two sons, Robert Scott Meyers, Sunnyvale, Calif., and David Lewis Meyers and his wife Kathy, Wendell, N.C.; a daughter, Carroll Meyers Krause and her husband Michael, Garner, N.C.; two brothers, Charles Meyers, Buffalo, N.Y. and Donald Meyers, Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters, Ethel Bruce, Bellflower, Calif., Peggy Skelton, Sioux City, Iowa, and Mary Lou Hartson, Lancaster, Calif.; two grandchildren, Kristin Ashley Meyers and Lauren Elizabeth Krause; his mother-in-law, Frances Dodson, Roanoke; his brother-in-law, Don Dodson, and his wife Polly. Memorials may be made to Peace Presbyterian Church, 4365 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Peace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Francis B. Avery, Jr. officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 28, 1999, at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke.
