The Globe (Washington, D.C.), 28 Dec 1837 (died 4 December 1837)
(As recorded in The Descendants of Thomas Meriwether by David Meriwether, 1891)

Died—At his residence, near Lebanon, Marion county, Ky., on the 4th inst., after a long and painful illness, in the seventy-second year of his age, Mr. Thomas Meriwether, a native of the State of Virginia. Prior to his emigration to Kentucky, Mr. M. had filled, creditably to himself, various public trusts, both civil and military. He was repeatedly elected a member of the House of Delegates of the Legislature for the County of Louisa, and was also honored with a seat in the Senate of his native state.

In every instance in which he was a candidate for public favor, he was successful. He was eminently benevolent, humane and charitable. At an advanced age, and after encountering in his later years much misfortune and suffering, he has sunk into the tomb without leaving behind, it is believed, a single enemy.
