Served as a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. Benjamin Howell(s), was mustered into Company H, of the 194th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment (100 days) as a Private on July 20, 1864. Before his obligation expired he along with other men from the 194th & 195th PVI Regiments were transferred on September 6, 1864 to the 97th PVI Regiment and formed into an Independent Company. He was mustered out with that Company, June 17, 1865.A Union Army Civil War veteran.
