Betty was born June 28, 1906, in Hazel Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Johan and Karna (Martinson) Bengtson. She was baptized in July of 1906 at the Hazel Run Zion Lutheran Church. She was confirmed on April 11, 1920, by Rev. O. M. Wee at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church southwest of Hazel Run, Minnesota. On March 2, 1930, she married John O. Vold. To this union three children were born, Kathleen, Phillip, and Lewellyn.
Betty was a housewife who loved to sew and do handwork. Over the years Betty was involved in ALCW, Sons of Norway, Homemaker's Club, Birthday Club, 4-H Club Leader, Hospital Auxilary, Farm Bureau, and she also taught Sunday School for many years.
A special person in Betty's life was Edwin Bengtson, a cousin who came from Sweden at the age of eleven and made his home with Betty and her parents and later with John and Betty until he passed away in 1955.
