Obituary, Nashville [TN] Union and American, Tue, 25 Mar 1856, pg. 3:

DIED at his residence, in this city, on Saturday last, of apoplexy consequent upon disease of the heart, C. J. FOX WHARTON.

Although laboring under the ravages of disease for many months previous, he persevered in the discharge of the active duties of ife, until Thursday last, when he was suddenly stricken down with paralysis and rendered sholly incapable of transacting business.

Cheered by the consolations of religion, he had borne up with manly fortitude and Christian patience under affliction; nor did his courage forsake him no that he knew his dissolution was near. For a brief interval after this sad event, while yet he retained his mental faculties, he with unwavering faith, besought strength to sustain him from on high, nd meekly resigned himself to the will of Heaven, in the full confidence of a happy immortality beyond the grave.

C. J. FOX WHARTON had been long and favorably known to the citizens of Nashville, among whom he had resided many years. He was unobtrusive and pleasant in his manners, candid and honest in the expression of his sentiments, of unquestioned uprightness and integrity, and withal, a pious and exemplary Christian.

To his bereaved family, we feel that no words of consolation can be offered, adequate to allay their grief. We can but mingle our tears with theirs.
