Mrs. Will Benz

Mrs. Berniece Wherry Benz of Pawnee City died there on Saturday, July 14, 1956, at the age of 65 years and nine months. She was born at Liberty on October 15, 1890, the only daughter of Jessie Comstock Wherry and David Emery Wherry.


At an early age she became a member of the Second United Presbyterian church of Pawnee City. When that church disbanded she, with her family, became a member of the First Presbyterian church, which membership she held to the day of her death.


After being graduated from the Pawnee City high school she attended the University of Nebraska where she was affiliated with the Alpha Phi sorority. Later she studied at the Hartford School of Missions at Hartford, Conn.


On November 11, 1925, she was united in marriage to Will Benz, and together they built and established the home where they had lived until the present time. "Auntie Bee" and "Uncle Bill" had an active part in the rearing of a niece, Carol Jean Wherry Peek, who made her home with them. Their wonderful influence has been felt also throughout the whole generation of nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Benz' interests and enthusiasms were many and varied. As she was the only girl of the family she early followed all the activities of her brothers, spending several years in assisting them in
