John Murray Jr. and his wife Catherine moved to Minneapolis from the Philadelphia area in 1857, shortly before Minnesota became a state. Their first several children were born in the Philadelphia area. Six more children were born in Minneapolis from1857 to 1867, and several of their children died there while very young. John was a lawyer and the first Justice of the Peace in Minneapolis. He died in Minneapolis on January 15, 1868. Apparently his wife had already moved back to Philadelphia with the children shortly before then, because one of their children died there on January 1 of the same year. Later two of their daughters moved back to Minnesota.
