In 1888 he created at Versailles a consumer cooperative and the Protestant Association for the practical study of social issues, along with Charles Gide and Jules Siegfried. Initiator of a particular class of "social and industrial economy" at the Universal Exhibition of 1889, the same year he appeared among the founders, with Jules Siegfried, the French Society of cheap dwellings. In 1890, he lives entrust the General Secretariat of the Cooperative Union. In 1896 he also became vice-president of the Museum office, which he had been one of the co-founders.
