U.S. Congressman. Successful in the gristmill and sawmill business, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1809-13). In 1821, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress and as a Jackson Republican to the Eighteenth Congresses, serving until 1825. After leaving Congress, he moved to North Carolina, in 1827 and engaged in agricultural pursuits and in the real estate business, until his death at age 73.
