U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced to practice law in Connersville, Indiana, Entering politics, he was Mayor of Connersville, Indiana, (1904-10). In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second, Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1917. He was again elected to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving (1933-39). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he lectured and the practice of law until his death at age 83.
