m. two young men, Clark Harris and
Clark Dunaway, about 20 years of age,
were drowned in the mill-pond belonging,
to Mr. Jas. Woolworth of Pinckney. The
young men in company with a younger
Harris boy went to the pond, when Clark
Harris removed his clothing and went into
the water which is shallow near the shore
but suddenly becomes deep by a sharp
descent of the land. At this point he
found himself in trouble, the nature of
which is unknown. The Dunaway boy
seeing his comrad in trouble went in to
rescue him, set stopping to remove his
clothing. It someway happened that both
were drowned. The little boy then ran
for help when the bodies were soon found
The father and mother of Clark Harris
had, that morning, gone to Harrisville and
on their arrival at that place found a dispatch
containing the sad news. David
Dunaway and wife, parents of the unfortunate
boy, had gone to Adams. The grief
of the parents cannot be expressed. Their
children were both buried in the same
grave in the South Champion Cemetery.
Rev. S. C. Corbin of Copenhagen preached
the funeral discourse to a crowded house
from the following words: "My Son
My Son" These things are sad.
