US Congressman. Elected to represent Maryland's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1865 to 1869. Also served as a Member of the Maryland State Senate from 1845 to 1849, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Maryland in 1864, Member of the Maryland State House of Delegates in 1880, and Speaker of the Maryland State House of Delegates in 1880.
