"The LaFayette Sun" - June 30, 1909:

Mr. Zach Schuessler.

Mr. Zach Schuessler, one of our most prominent citizens, died at his home here last Friday night about 10 o'clock. He had been in bad health for some time, and had recently returned from Memphis, where he had been under treatment of skilled physicians in one of the leading sanitariums of that city.
Mr. Schuessler was born in LaFayette and this has always been his home. For a great many years he was engaged in the mercantile business as a member of the firm of Schuessler Brothers. His success in this line, gained by his close attention to business affairs, enabled him to retire from active business life a number of years ago. He was invariably a good neighbor, and there was no happier family circle than his. And now that he is dead, the grief that is felt over the close of his long career is widespread and sincere. His best monument will be the good report that he has left behind in the community in which he has lived for nearly sixty hears.
The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church, of which he was a member, Saturday afternoon at three o'clock. Rev. Edward Fulmer, assisted by Rev. S. L. Dobbs and Rev. E. M. Stewart, conducted the services. The remains were laid to rest in the City cemetery, the services at the grave being in charge of the Knights of Pythias.
Besides a devoted wife he leaves five sons and three daughters – T. H. Schuessler, of Columbus; Zach and Grover Schuessler, of this place, Mrs. J. Thos. Heflin, Mrs. C. E. Fuller and Miss Annie Laurie Schuessler, all of LaFayette. He is also survived by four sisters and three brothers – Mrs. Mary Finney, of Douglas, Ga.; Mrs. Tom Bingham, of Birmingham; Mrs. Roemer, of Montgomery, Mrs. Jack Bingham, of Talladega, and Messrs. L. S. and C. Schuessler, of this place, and Mr. Major Schuessler, of Roanoke.
