US Governor. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War (1861-1865). Elected to represent Indiana in the Indiana State House of Representatives from 1871 to 1875. Served as the Governor of Dakota Territory in 1889 and Governor of South Dakota from 1889 to 1893.
