Veteran of the American Revolutionary War

Served as part of the South Carolina Militia


Hezekiah Posey was born on Mar 20, 1751 in Charles County, Maryland. He later moved to the part of Ninety Sixth District which later became Abbeville District, SC. There he enlisted in 1774 under Capt. John Cameron and assisted in constructing a fort against the Indians. In July, 1776, he served under Capt. Andrew Pickens and Capt. Alexander Noble in the Revolutionary War.

Between 1778 and 1781 he fought several battles against the Cherokee Indians. On Dec 8, 1781, while guarding wagons, he was shot through the left shoulder and arm by Tories. In 1796 he moved to Tennessee and in 1817 he moved to Alabama. In April, 1832 he moved to Benton County, Alabama, where he applied for a pension (S14292) on July 9, 1834. He was still living as of June 1, 1840

Suggested edit: Hezekiah Posey was the son of Capt. John Posey and Mary Perry, born in Charles Co., MD. He migrated to Abbeville Dist., SC btw 1770-1772 with four of his brothers. He was married to Ruth Ellison Miller, who bore him at least 11 children. After migrating to Blount Co., AL abt 1796, he then moved to Benton (now Calhoun) Co., AL abt Apr 1832. His death date is on his grave is erroneous. His will was signed 14 Oct 1844 and witnessed, after his death, before the Probate Judge on 2 Sep 1847; and recorded on 2 Nov 1847. So he died in abt Jul or Aug 1847.
