U.S. Congressman. He taught school in Douglas County, Minnesota, when he enlisted in the US Army and served as a Private in Company B, 15th Regiment, Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, during the Spanish-American War. After the war, he resumed teaching, studied law, graduated from the St. Paul Law School, was admitted to the bar at St. Paul in 1916, but did not engage in extensive law practice. He was also elected commander in chief of the United Spanish War Veterans. In 1915, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth, Sixty-fifth and Sixty-sixth Congresses, serving until his death at age 38.

COMMANDER SPANISH WAR VETERAN DEAD

Washington, May 20. - Representative Carl C. Van Dyke of St. Paul, Minn., commander in chief of the United States War Veterans, died of hemorrage of the stomach at a Washington hospital after an illness since Sunday.
Mr. Van Dyke was a Democrat and was serving his third term in congress. He was a native of Alexandria, Minn., and was 38 years old.
