US Congressman. Served in the United States Marine Corps during World War I. Elected to represent Utah's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1941 to 1953. He was defeated in 1954. Also served as a Member of the Utah State House of Representatives from 1932 to 1937, Speaker of the Utah State House of Representatives in 1935, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Utah in 1944 and 1948, and Candidate for United States Senator from Utah in 1952.
