US Congressman, US Senator. Elected to represent Massachusetts' 4th and 9th Districts and as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1795 to 1811. Also served as a Member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives from 1780 to 1785, Member of the Massachusetts State Senate from 1786 to 1795, and 1817 to 1821, Common Pleas Court Judge, Speaker of the United States House from 1807 to 1811, and United States Senator from Massachusetts from 1811 to 1817.
