Mr. Varnum was a native of Massachusetts, a son of General Joseph B. Varnum of that state and for several years a clerk in the General Post Office. He was a man of much enterprise and industry, was a most useful citizen and had contributed very largely to the improvement and embellishment of the city.
He left a widow and several children to mourn a loss to them irreparable, and which they had but a few days before little reason to anticipate.
His friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend his funeral from his late residence, at half past 8 o'clock this morning.
