Mike Mies, 76, prominent businessman & citizen of Watkins died Friday, March 19th at the St. Cloud hospital.
Mike held many of the community leadership positions during his lifetime, & was active in the community, church & social affairs over the years. Mike was an Implement & auto dealer here over 35 years. He bought & processed tobacco here for 40 years, before retiring several years ago. He was past president of the Chamber of Commerce & the Senior Citizens & was a member of the Elks Club, the Cold Spring Knights of Columbus & the St. Anthony Catholic order of Foresters. Funeral services were held Monday in St. Anthony's church with burial in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Mies was born march 19, 1900, in Watkins & married Albina Deutsch in 1924 in Watkins. He was a retired implement & auto dealer & bought & processed tobacco for 40 years.
Surviving are his widow; children, Peter, Huron, SD., Verlin & Anthony L. Watkins; Mrs. Evelyn Overlin, & Lucille [Ken] Kammeier, Mpls., & Mary Ellen [Scott] McKibben, Shreveport, LA., brother & sisters Math, Suzie [Henry] Donnay & Ceil [Jacob] Klein, Watkins & Margaret [Al] Nathe, Paynesville. 18 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Peter, & one sister, Mary. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Brutger, Arnie Weeres, Pep Weber, Wm. Loch Sr. Span Manuel, Bill Haggerty, Roy Schiff, Alex Middendorf. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Richard Overlin, James Overlin, Doug Kammeier, Gary Mies, Rick Mies, & Ron Mies
