Sebastian was the son of Johann Nicolaus Heller and Anna Dorothea Elisabeth Loebel (aka Nicolaus and Dorothea). He was born in Schweina, Saxe-Meiningen, and emigrated from Bremen in Apr.1853 on board the ship Peter, arriving in New York on June 27, 1853, and proceeded to Wisconsin. Family lore says Sebastian borrowed money from his godfather to come to America. He worked to save enough money to bring brother Johann. The two worked to bring over brother George. The 3 brothers then saved to bring brothers Christian and August. Finally they could bring the rest of the family.

On Sept.30, 1858 he married Auguste Teske. They first lived in the area surrounding Wrightstown, later moving to the Town of Brothertown, Calumet County, in 1865. The couple had 13 children, the two eldest (George and Edwin) died young while they lived near Wrightstown.
