Julia Ann was the daughter of William Smith (1768-1835) & Sallie Ellis (1787-1813) of Fayette Co, KY. She was the grandaughter of William "Goldmine" Smith of Lexington.
She was married to Thomas Hughes, son of Cornelius, and had 4 children who were enumerated with their father:
1. William Thomas "W T" Hughes 1832–1874, h/o Sallie Kirkpatrick Cooper
2. Robert Henry Hughes 1837–1852 Died Young
3. Ann W. Hughes 1841–1863, w/o Robert M Ferguson
4. Sarah Catherine "Kate" Hughes 1844–1908, w/o KY Gov. James Bennett McCreary
She may have also been the mother of Louisa, Mary T, Robert, and Merrett W.; children whose birth and death dates are not shown on their headstones and are not recorded.
