S. D. Fess' Mother Dies Here

Mrs. Barbara Fess Richey, 89 years of age last December, died Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, 107 Dewey-ave. Mrs. Richey was the mother of Congressman Simeon D. Fess, Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Attorney Charles L. Fess, 1040 W. High-st, Lima.

Mrs. Richey was born December 2, 1831, in Perry-co, but had spent practically her entire life in Allen-co. Her first husband died 50 years ago and her second husband, A. J. Richey, passed away eight years ago. Since the death of her second husband, she had resided with her daughter, Mrs. Brown and with a son, William Fess, Shawnee-tp.

Mrs. Richey had been ill a year. Death was due to general debility. She was one of the early settlers of Allen-co and experienced the hardships attendant upon pioneer life. Her greatest desire was to see her children secure a splendid education and go out into the world to win success and honor. She was spared to largely realize her desires.

Besides Congressman Fess and Attorney Fess, she is survived by another son, Levi B. Fess, 525 E. Franklin-st, Lima.

The body was removed to the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Pearl Fess Allen, 817 E. Elm-st. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, altho services will probably be held Tuesday.
