She was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Tacoma to Alvis and Frances (Adams) Ray. She graduated from Stadium High School in 1944 and attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.
She married Gail Steele on Aug. 31, 1946, and moved to Clatskanie in 1951. He preceded her in death in July 1999.
Mrs. Steele worked part-time at the Avalon Theatre, Dixon's Drug Store and the Clatskanie Chief, which was owned by the family.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Hazen and Dayle Christensen; a sister, Juliana Strong; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary chapel in Clatskanie. A private committal service will be held at Murray Hill Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.
