Julie Strong was born in Tacoma, WA, to Alvis and Frances Ray as one of five talented but unique daughters. Her childhood days included time in her father's print shop proofreading type, developing a lifelong love of words and writing.

Julie attended Redlands and UC Berkeley. She raised five children while serving as a Presbyterian missionary in Ethiopia (1951-1972). She relocated to Dallas, OR and loved being a reporter for the Itemizer-Observer for six years. Julie won a statewide award for her weekly column. With the birth of twin grandchildren, she moved to Salem in 1990. She adored her time with Anna and Owen.

Julie was deeply devoted to her family and faith. She loved roses, the news, puns, quilts and whatever was good in each day. She counted her blessings and comforted others with hugs, chocolate and a laugh. She was an ardent fan of the Mariners.

Survivors include her children: Christine Daniels, Carolyn Strong, Catherine Strong (Ted Reutlinger), Claire Strong and Richard Strong. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Marion, Dixy, Jean and Wisa; her former husband Al and much-loved son-in-law Larry Daniels.

At her request interment at City View Cemetery was private. More details in online memorial.
