LOGAN, UTAH: Ruth Pugmire Carter, 89, died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Logan Regional Hospital.

Ruth was born March 19, 1918, in Paris, Idaho, to Jonathan Rich and Ellen Budge Pugmire. Ruth spent much of her childhood on the family dry farm located on the east side of Bear Lake herding sheep and driving the pullup She attend Emerson Elementary School in Paris and graduated from Fielding High School in 1936. As a member of Phi Kappa Phi she graduated with honors from Utah State Agricultural College.

She met her husband, Floyd L. Carter, while working as a hostess at the Union Pacific Dining Lodge in West Yellowstone. They were married Oct. 7, 1950 in Logan, then moved to Ogden to make their home. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Ruth was a teacher. Before her marriage she taught in Midway, Oakley, Firth, Burley and Montpelier, Idaho. She taught in Richfield and at both South Ogden and North Ogden Junior High for a total of 38 years, missing only one day of school. She also served in many teaching positions in the LDS church and worked in the Ogden Temple for nine years.

She was an active member of several organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers, Ogden Widows Association and served as the secretary for the Charles C. Rich Family Organization for over 38 years.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Pugmire of Logan and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Alice Evans and Helen Crawford and her brother Franklin Pugmire.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan. Friends may call at the mortuary Monday morning from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at Allen Mortuaries.
