BURIAL OF MAN WHO LEFT HERE YEARS AGO TO BE WED
FORTUNE FROM OIL
Richard Oglesby,son of former Governor Richard Oglesby of Illinois was found dead Sunday morning in bed in his room in Mayo Hotel at Tulsa, Ok.,according to word received by Decatur friends. He was 61 years old. For a number of years, Mr. Oglesby had suffered heart disease and had traveled extensively for his health. Three weeks ago he was visited in his home at New York by Attorney C.C. Leforgee of Decatur a lifelong friend. At that time Mr. Oglesby was under the care of a private nurse. Several days before Christmas Mr. Oglesby went to Tulsa to look after business interests. It was his intention to come from Tulsa to Decatur to visit Mr.LeForgee. Saturday morning Mr.Oglesby is reported to have felt ill and to have sent a number of letters and telegrams announcing that he had decided to leave Sunday for Palm Beach, Fla, where his yacht was stationed. Saturday night he retired, apparently in fair health. At 9 oclock Sunday morning his nurse entered his room and found him breathing heavily. He died an hour later.
Since 1916, Mr. Oglesbys residence had been in New York although he passed much of his time traveling. During his stay at Tulsa, He was visiting in the home of Mrs. Herman D.Cornell, a niece and her daughter, Kathryn. He was a resident of Tulsa from 1906 to 1916.
Mr. Oglesby was born Oct. 8, 1865 at Decatur. His father Richard James Oglesby was a general of an Illinois regiment during the Civil war and following the war was twice Governor of Illinois. Later he served one term as U.S.Senator from Illinois. Governor Oglesby was a close friend of Abraham Lincoln who sometimes visited the elder Oglesby in the Decatur home.
Mr.Oglesby was a member of the Harvard Club, the Lotus Club and the New York Yacht Club and the Larchment club, all of New York and of the Tulsa Country club. Mr. Oglesby habitually returned to visit with relatives and friend in Decatur once a years. His last visit in Decatur was in February of 1927.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Olive Oglesby Snider of Tulsa,a half sister,Countess Cenci Bolognetti(Felicite) of Elkhart, Ill, and two half brothers, John and Jasper Oglesby of Elkhart and the niece Mrs.Cornell.
Mr.Oglesbys body will be brought to Decatur, arriving here Wednesday morning. After a brief funeral service, burial will be made in the Oglesby lot in Greenwood cemetery.
