Mrs. Joan Eagles, age 78, died at her home here at 8:30 o'clock Thursday night of last week after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Eagles had been in failing health for the past few years but her condition did not become acute until a few days before her death and after she was stricken with pneumonia.

The widow of the late Edward Eagles, a former postmaster and enterprising business man of Winnfield, Mrs. Eagles was also the sister of the late Huey P. Long, Sr.

She is survived by two sons, George P. Eagles of Winnfield and Earl Eagles of Shreveport; four daughters, Mrs. W. W. Grisby [sic Grigsby] and Mrs. Guy Johnson of Winnfield, Mrs. T. G. Smith of DeRidder and Mrs. J. L. Land of Shreveport; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Nugent of Alexandria, Mrs. S. A. Wright and Mrs. Olive Wright of Winnfield and one brother, A. J. Long of Winnfield.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the First Baptist church here conducted by the Rev. B. C. Land, pastor, assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian church and Rev. G. A. Morgan of the First Methodist church. Interment was made in the Winnfield cemetery under the direction of Walsh Funeral Home.

Pall bearers were the grandsons of the deceased, G. P. and Lamar Eagles; W. M., Joe Earl, Ulyssess and Ed Grigsby.
