Politician, businessman, lawyer: George Jerome, of Detroit, Michigan, was elected to the Michigan State Senate three times. He was a founder of the Republican Party in 1854 and secured the withdrawal of John C. Fremont against Lincoln. He was a successful railroad lawyer, Collector of the Port of Detroit, and brother of Michigan Governor David H. Jerome.

George was the son of Horace Jerome and Elizabeth Rose Hart. He married Jennie Leach of St. Clair County, Michigan, on May 15, 1877, in Detroit. They had two children who both died in childhood. The cause of George's death was an attack of "the grip", influenza.
