John M. Boggs was born in 1832 in Independence, Missouri. His father was Lilburn W. Boggs, governor of Missouri from 1836-1840. His mother was the granddaughter of the great pioneer Daniel Boone. In 1869, Mr. Boggs came to Bent County where his brother, Thomas, had founded Boggsville and established a ranch and trading post. When Bent County was formed, he was elected county clerk. John Boggs married the 14-year-old stepdaughter of Charles Bent. John died in January 1914.
