"The LaFayette Sun" - August 9, 1905:
Infant of Mr. and Mrs. Heflin Dead.

Ida Catherine, the one and a half year old daughter of Congressman and Mrs. J. T. Heflin, of LaFayette, died Saturday evening at Chattanooga, Tenn., after a lingering illness. The infant was removed a few weeks ago from their LaFayette home to the Heflin sanitarium at Birmingham, but no improvement was noted in the condition. The other day they again removed the baby to Chattanooga, but its condition became lower until death came Saturday.

The remains were brought to Opelika last night and taken to LaFayette this morning for burial.

Friends of the parents extend condolence in their hour of bereavement.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at this place yesterday at 10:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. M. Glenn, and the remains were interred in the city cemetery. (Opelika News of Aug. 7th.)
