SOUTH BEND - Lois (Fassnacht) Haber, 81, of South Bend, died at 5:00 a.m. Saturday in her residence. She had been ill since suffering a fall last September. Lois was born July 12, 1927, in South Bend, to Homer E. and Ethel (Jackson) Fassnacht, who preceded her in death.

She went to Madison Elementary and South Bend Central High School. She graduated in 1949 from DePauw University where she earned Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honors and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. In 1949 she married Lewis Smith Haber in South Bend. Early in the marriage she was a writer for the Putnam County Graphic in Greencastle, and then was a caseworker for the Department of Public Welfare of St. Joseph County, South Bend. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association and a member of the South Bend Junior League. Lois was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Lewis "Bud" Haber; two sons, Jonathan Mark Haber of Missoula, MT, and Christopher Lewis Haber of Kalamazoo, MI; a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Haber of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Andrea and Elizabeth Haber of Kalamazoo, Steven and Ben Haber of Missoula; two brothers, H. Jackson Fassnacht of Mishawaka and William Christopher of Walnut Creek, CA; and a sister, Jean Pearce of Chevy Chase, MD.
