Elizabeth was blind for about 20 years according to granddaughter, Florence Hoyt Legates.

Oswego Palladium-Times-Monday, December 12, 1938-page 9 Following a lingering illness, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoyt, widow of Charles Hoyt, died early Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Crawford, 5 East Eighth street.
Mrs. Hoyt was born in Oswego and was in her 78th year. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and during her long life in Oswego made many friends among whom she was highly regarded. Mrs. Hoyt's husband, who died several years ago, was a sergeant during the Civil War in Battery F. Third Artillery, U.S. Army.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Sidonia Whitford, Mrs. Herbert Victory, Mrs. Mark J. Stall, Mrs. Earl Sanders, Mrs. Mary Crawford, Oswego; one son, Conrad Hoyt, Oswego, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Chubb of Syracuse.
Funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sidonia Whitford, 78 East Seventh street.
